To aim for a good life while protecting the environment and coexisting with nature, we must first understand the Earth we live on. Since childhood, I have loved nature, including mountains, rivers, and forests, and I learned about the energy of the Earth and the beauty of nature, which led me to study Earth sciences. Currently, I conduct research that applies geomorphology and petrology as a foundation to civil engineering, architecture, and cultural heritage preservation. Many large structures built for religious purposes or to demonstrate power have been designated as World Heritage Sites or cultural properties. Terms like civil engineering heritage and geological heritage have now become established. However, as time passes, these heritages undergo weathering and deterioration, necessitating preservation and restoration. In such cases, it is essential to first understand the original materials and use the same materials; if that is not possible, alternative materials must be employed. Additionally, the development of durable materials is necessary. I analyze the properties of rocks and the state of weathering and deterioration using various methods, while also investigating their relationship with the surrounding environment.
